Zaltbommel is officially a Hanseatic city and you will see and experience that everywhere in the coming weeks. In the streetscape, on the quay, at the statues and in the city centre. But also online. Because a new Hanseatic city deserves a new website. Hanzestadzaltbommel.nl is here and introduces you in a new way to the city, its history and everything there is to experience.

Host families sought for the Hanseatic Weekend

During the Hanse Days of 20 and 21 June 2026, Zaltbommel will come alive as a true medieval Hanse city. Guest actors from across the country will bring crafts, trade and daily life from the Hanse era to life in the city centre. Think of blacksmiths, weavers, potters and merchants filling the streets, squares and quays with the hustle and bustle of days gone by. For about ten of these actors, host families are still being sought who are willing to accommodate them during the night of Saturday 20 to Sunday 21 June.

Statues on the quay in Hanseatic style

Proudly they look out over the Waal, the statues on the Waalkade of Zaltbommel. They stand there in all weathers, summer and winter, watching the river flow past them as the Waal has done for centuries. But during the Hanseatic Days of 20 and 21 June, they too will receive special treatment. The statues will be dressed in Hanseatic style, fitting the theme that will grip the entire city throughout this weekend.
