Orange on the Market during the Hanseatic Days

Football connects. They knew that in the Hanseatic era too, even if it was called something different back then. Cities working together, people seeking each other out, a shared sense of pride and solidarity: these are the values that made the Hanse great and that will come to life again on 20 June at the Market Square of Zaltbommel.

Because on Saturday 20 June at 7:00 PM, the Dutch national team will face Sweden at the World Cup. And we are going to experience that together in Zaltbommel. A large screen will be set up on the Market Square so that everyone can follow the match, cheer along and hopefully celebrate together. The Market Square of Zaltbommel is the perfect place for that. Surrounded by buildings dating back to the Hanseatic era, with the atmosphere of the Hanseatic Weekend still in the air, you watch a match that captivates the entire country.

The Hanseatic League stood for cooperation, connection and shared interests. Those values also apply on 20 June for ninety minutes of football. Come to the Market Square, bring your scarf, get a drink and celebrate the Hanseatic Weekend in style. Who knows, at the end of the evening we may be celebrating two things at once.

Bommelweek 2026 a great success again

Bommelweek 2026 was once again a great success in the Hanseatic city of Zaltbommel. From 15 to 23 August, the city was full of events, adventure and experience. We are proud that together as Binnenstadsfonds, entrepreneurs and sponsors in collaboration with Ronde Tafel Bommelerwaard, we were able to present three beautiful cheques to three local initiatives in the Bommelerwaard.

Host families sought for the Hanseatic Weekend

During the Hanse Days of 20 and 21 June 2026, Zaltbommel will come alive as a true medieval Hanse city. Guest actors from across the country will bring crafts, trade and daily life from the Hanse era to life in the city centre. Think of blacksmiths, weavers, potters and merchants filling the streets, squares and quays with the hustle and bustle of days gone by. For about ten of these actors, host families are still being sought who are willing to accommodate them during the night of Saturday 20 to Sunday 21 June.
