At the location of Korte Tolstraat 8, the Sackendraegersgilthuys once stood, the guildhall of the sack carriers. The sack carriers formed one of the many guilds that structured the economic life of the Hanseatic city of Zaltbommel. They carried goods from the ships to the warehouses, thereby playing an indispensable role in the trade logistics of the city. The guildhall was their meeting place, but also the symbol of their organisation and social identity.
