The Old Lombard at Kerkplein 15-17 was one of the most important financial institutions in Zaltbommel during the Middle Ages. A lombard was a pawnshop where merchants and citizens could borrow money against collateral. The institution played a crucial role in the trade economy of the Hanseatic city. The building is one of the few tangible reminders of the medieval financial life of the city.
