The magnificent building at Kerkplein 16 is a remnant of the city palace of Johan van Rossum, brother of knight Maarten van Rossum who had the City Castle on Nonnenstraat built. Johan had this house built as his town residence in Bommel. It is one of the most striking buildings on the Kerkplein and bears witness to the wealth and power of the Van Rossum family in the sixteenth century.
