On the site of the former city castle on the Nonnenstraat, the medieval history of power in Zaltbommel is palpable. The castle was the centre of urban governance and the seat of the lords of the city. During the Hanseatic period, it played a key role in the defence and administration of the city. Although the castle itself no longer exists, the location serves as a reminder of the strategic and political significance of Zaltbommel in the region.
